Sajid Khan, Mubasir Khan skittle opposition for 40 in President's Cup

The second round of matches in the 2025 President's Cup Grade-I (One Day) took place on December 10, and the United Bank Limited Sports Complex in Karachi saw Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGP) take on Khan Research Laboratories (KRL).

KRL skipper, Pakistan international Iftikhar Ahmed, elected to field first after winning the toss. His decision looked excellent as three batters – Haseebullah Khan, Azan Awais and Saad Khan – were back in the dugout inside the first ten overs.

SNGP and Pakistan Test skipper Shan Masood held the innings together with 47 even as his side went from 78-4 to 78-7 in the middle overs. Mohammad Irfan's run-a-ball 32 then helped SNGP to 140, still not a winning score by any stretch.

Waqar Ahmed and Shahzaib Khan put on 19 for the first wicket for KRL, but amazingly, that was the highest partnership of the innings. Waqar was bowled by Shahnawaz Dahani for 14, and then the floodgates opened.

Pakistan Test spinner Sajid Khan got rid of Saad Baig in the ninth over, before the one-T20I-capped Mubasir Khan dismissed Iftikhar and Muhammad Amir Azmat off consecutive balls in the following over, leaving KRL 26-4.

The pair put the screws on KRL, limiting the scoring while striking at regular intervals. Sajid accounted for Sarmad Bhatti and Hamza Nazar, before Mubasir got the wicket of opener Shahzaib for 12 off 46 balls, in the 18th over. With his next two deliveries, he bowled Muhammad Shayan Shaikh and Sufiyan Muqeem, completing his five-wicket haul with a hat-trick.

KRL were 35-9 at that point, and Sajid completed the rout by trapping No.11 Arshad Iqbal lbw for one, securing a 100-run win for SNGP. Both spinners finished with List A career-best figures; Sajid with 4-10 from 7.2 overs, and Mubasir 5-6 in seven overs. KRL's total of 40 is also the joint-lowest in a List A match in Pakistan.
