Shamyl Hussain scores half-century for Pakistan TV

The 21-year-old left-handed batter opened the innings for Pakistan TV against Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) in the President's Cup (One-Day) on Friday. PTV were sent in after WAPDA won the toss.

Shamyl dominated the opening stand with Yasir Khan, making his way to 32 off 24 by the sixth over. The team score was 41 at that point, with Yasir on four. The pair brought up a 50-run stand in 7.2 overs. At the end of 10 overs, the score was 62-0, with Shamyl batting on 44 off 36.

He brought up a second List A half-century off 39 balls, tapping off-spinner Mujtaba Khan for four and then pulling him for six. Shamyl looked in menacing touch, but had to depart for 58 off 49 after a mix-up saw him run out by Ayaz Tasawar.

      PTV eventually posted 272-8, and the match came to a somewhat farcical end, three overs short of the second innings due to bad light. WAPDA were 235-4 at the time, needing 38 off 18 balls. PTV were declared winners by six runs via the DLS method.

      This knock continued a stunning run of form for Shamyl, who was Pakistan's second highest run-scorer at the 2024 U19 World Cup. His first two innings of this year's President's Cup saw him score 112* and 52 against Ghani Glass and Oil & Gas respectively. Prior to that, he made 76, 85 and 131 in his last three innings of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

      At the time of writing, Shamyl averages over 50 with the bat after 20 first-class matches, and in excess of 60 in List A cricket (six matches). He was also signed by PSL franchise Islamabad United in 2023.
