Ranji Trophy 2025-26 final: Karnataka and Jammu & Kashmir’s path to the decider
Karnataka, the second most successful team in the Ranji Trophy with eight titles, will start as favourites against J&K, who will be playing in the final of India’s premier first-class tournament for the first time. The match is scheduled to start at 9.30am IST.
The two sides had identical group stages, finishing second in their respective groups with three wins, as many draws, and a defeat. While Karnataka went down to Madhya Pradesh during the stage, J&K lost their season opener to Mumbai.
In the quarter-finals, the north Indian side beat MP in a close game by 56 runs to reach their maiden semis. Karnataka, on the other hand, beat Mumbai by four wickets while chasing 325, before piling on the runs in their last-four clash against first-time semi-finalists Uttarakhand to reach their 15th Ranji final.
J&K, meanwhile, beat Bengal by six wickets despite conceding a first-innings lead in their semi. Auqib Nabi has led their charge with aplomb, picking up 21 wickets in the two knockout games so far, to take his season tally to 55. Pacers Sunil Kumar (29) and Yudhvir Singh (19), and left-arm spinner Abid Mushtaq (20), have been among the wickets as well.
Karnataka have been driven by their batters, with six of them having scored over 400 runs in the ongoing season. Ravichandran Smaran also leads the batting charts with 950 runs and is fresh off twin hundreds in the semi-final. KL Rahul also hit a ton against Uttarakhand, while captain Devdutt Padikkal scored a double century.
