Sri Lanka A skipper Sahan Arachchige notched up a composed ton in the second unofficial Test against India A in Galle.

After a lean patch of 17 first-class matches, Sahan Arachchige finally ended his wait for a ninth hundred in the format, breaching the three-figure mark in the ongoing second unofficial Test against India A. The 30-year-old batting all-rounder has featured in both the white-ball formats for Sri Lanka, with five ODIs and a solitary T20I under his belt, the last of which came in 2024.

The knock of 127 (207) will be a relief, considering the fact that it took him nearly 18 months to get back to three figures. His most recent first-class ton before this one came in February 2025 while playing for Nondescripts against Kurunegala in the Major League Tournament in Sri Lanka. Though Arachchige has stayed in good touch since, the three-figure mark eluded him for more than a year.

In the first unofficial Test against India A, he scored a gritty 72 off 129 deliveries in the first innings, and was the only batter to clear the ropes from his side with three sixes. He also scalped a solitary wicket in the second innings.

Sahan Arachchige helps Sri Lanka A to a competitive total

With none of his teammates getting to the 50-run mark, Arachchige had to dig deep into his resources to take Sri Lanka A to a respectable total of 366. His knock of 127 featured 13 fours and two maximums, with almost half of his runs coming in boundaries. His 99-run fifth-wicket stand with wicketkeeper-batter Anjala Bandara took the team closer to the 300-run mark, and when the Sri Lanka A skipper fell as the ninth wicket, his side had amassed a competitive 362.

Overall in 84 first-class games, Arachchige has 4,228 runs with eight hundreds and 27 fifties, and 62 wickets at 45.77, including a four-wicket haul.
