South Africa internationals Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Donovan Ferreira both continued their excellent starts to the domestic season on Saturday (October 4).
Donovan Ferreira, Lhuan-dre Pretorius continue impressive first-class form
The second round of the CSA Four-Day Series began on October 2. The JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom played host to a face-off between the North West Dragons and Titans. Dragons skipper Wihan Lubbe won the toss and elected to bat first.
Lubbe declared at 491-8, their innings led by opener Meeka-eel Prince, who made 142. The captain himself made 75 and Rubin Hermann 69, before No.7 Dian Forrester made 94, falling just short of a third first-class ton.
In reply, the Titans were in trouble as Lesego Senokwane, Keegan Petersen, Jorich van Schalkwyk, and Sibonelo Makhanya all departed with just 91 on the board. That brought two Proteas together in the middle, as captain Donovan Ferreira joined 19-year-old Lhuan-dre Pretorius.
The pair put on a stellar counter-attack, with a partnership of 119 off 114 balls. Ferreira, recently named South Africa's captain for the one-off T20I against Namibia, was the aggressor as he scored 71 off just 56 balls, including nine fours and two sixes. Pretorius also made his way to a half-century, before departing for 70, eleven overs after Ferreira went. They were eventually bowled out for 262.
The fifties for both players extended their excellent form to start the season. At Paarl in the first round of matches, Pretorius scored 57 and 75, while Ferreira went one better with scores of 123 and 70. Ferreira also took 2-115 in the previous round, and 2-101 in the first innings here.
