Tiaan van Vuuren takes South Africa A to 2-0 win over England Lions

With South Africa A having taken an 85-run first-innings lead, Van Vuuren got the ball rolling early in the Lions' response. He drew a leading edge from opener Ben McKinney which was caught by Marques Ackerman before returning to do most of the damage in his second spell.

The Lions had slipped to 61-3 after two wickets in as many overs from Dane Paterson, which saw the back of both Dan Mousley and Asa Tribe. Van Vuuren then dismissed Ben Geddes with a ball which slid across the right hander and took the outside edge to second slip. With the Lions 77-4, Bjorn Fortuin took the wicket which dismissed Ben Mayes before Van Vuuren got on a roll.

He drew another leading edge from Rehan Ahmed when the all-rounder was six runs short of a half-century, before dismissing Ekansh Singh, who scored 95 in the first innings of the game, with an inside edge through to the keeper. The wicket of Eddie Jack gave Van Vuuren his five-for, and also secured him 10 wickets in the match. He finished the innings with match figures of 11-52, taking the final Lions wicket of Naavya Sharma lbw.

England Lions capitulate to series loss

Having been bowled out in their second innings for 158 – the second time in the game they'd been dismissed for under 200 – The Lions only had 73 runs to defend. Despite an early wicket apiece from Jack and Sharma, dismissing the two South Africa A openers, Jordan Hermann and Zubayr Hamza chased it in just over 17 overs.

That follows their loss by eight wickets to South Africa A in the first red ball match of the series. The two sides will now face each other in a 50-over series, the first match of which will take place in Leicester on June 5.
