Dale Phillips, the younger brother of New Zealand all-rounder Glenn, smashed a rapid century for New Zealand A on Wednesday (September 4).
Dale Phillips slams second List A century against South Africa A
The third and final 50-over game between South Africa A and New Zealand A took place at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on Wednesday, with the hosts choosing to bat first after chasing in both of the previous matches. They made 348-5 in their 50 overs, powered by a stunning unbeaten century from Jordan Hermann. Jayden Lennox was the pick of New Zealand's bowlers, with 2-36.

The visitors were dealt an early blow in the chase as Tshepo Moreki removed Rhys Mariu in the first over. But opener Dale Phillips and Joe Carter undertook a rebuilding job, putting on 135 for the second wicket before Carter was dismissed for 47. Phillips was the aggressor in the stand, reaching a half-century off 30 deliveries, and making his way to 83 off 59 balls by the time the stand was broken.

In the company of Muhammad Abbas, Phillips compiled his second List A century, reaching the mark off just 68 balls. He soon crossed his career-best of 107, getting to 147 off 108 balls before he holed out off the bowling of Andile Simelane. Abbas (66) and Curtis Heaphy (30*) then ensured New Zealand A were 18 runs ahead of the DLS par score when rain forced an early finish, giving them a consolation win in the series.
The younger brother of New Zealand star all-rounder Glenn Phillips, Dale is yet to play for the national team. He represented the U19 side 14 times, averaging a shade under 30. He represents Otago in domestic cricket, and has now played six times across formats for New Zealand A.
