Australia's Annabel Sutherland set a new record in women's Test cricket with her century against India on Saturday.
210, 163, 129: Annabel Sutherland scores third consecutive Test century
Sutherland came to the crease on day one (Friday) with Australia 58-3 in reply to India's 198 after being sent in. She and Ellyse Perry then took the score to 96-3 by stumps.
The pair continued where they left off in the first session of day two, putting on 50 and then 100 together. Perry was eventually dismissed for 76, but not before becoming Australia's highest run-scorer in women's Test cricket.
Sutherland was on 77 at the time, and shortly after tea, got to triple figures, with an uncharacteristic swipe that flew off the edge for four. She became the seventh wicket to fall, holing out at long on after scoring 129.
This was Sutherland's third Test century in as many innings, a new world record in women's Test cricket. Only four other players have managed to score two consecutive centuries. Notably, these innings have come in three different calendar years, 2024, 2025 and 2026, and against three different opponents; Sutherland made 210 against South Africa and 163 against England before this knock.
Overall, it was Sutherland's fourth Test century, adding to her 137* against England in 2023. The only woman with more is England's Janette Brittin, with five. Five other batters have scored four centuries.
