India have announced a 15-strong squad for the two-Test series against Sri Lanka, with off-spinning all-rounder Saransh Jain getting a maiden call up.
Saransh Jain receives maiden India call-up, Ravindra Jadeja returns
Ravindra Jadeja has returned to the Test squad after missing the one-off Test against Afghanistan. He has recovered from a tennis elbow injury that has kept him out of action since May this year. He last played for India in the ODI series against New Zealand in January.
Jasprit Bumrah, who sustained an impact injury to his left knee during the recent ODI series against England, has been named in the squad but his availability is subject to fitness clearance. Sai Sudharsan has been picked under the same conditions.
Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the first Test after also injuring himself during the England ODIs. Off-spin-bowling all-rounder Saransh Jain of Madhya Pradesh is his like-for-like replacement. If he plays in Sri Lanka, Jain will become India’s oldest men’s Test debutant in the 21st century.
From the side that played Afghanistan in the one-off Test, Harsh Dubey misses out with Jadeja’s return, while Washington and Nitish Kumar Reddy are nursing injuries. Manav Suthar has also retained his spot after a striking Test debut.
The first Test of the two-match series is scheduled to start on August 15, and will be played in Galle. The Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo will host the second match, starting August 23. India are also set to play a four-day tour match in Colombo from August 7.
