Watch: Forgotten India opener Prithvi Shaw roared back to form with a 34-ball 75 in the Mumbai T20 League on Sunday (June 8).
Since scoring a Test century on debut in 2018, Prithvi Shaw’s career has failed to reach the expected heights. Once hailed as India’s next batting superstar, the 25-year-old has struggled with consistency, hampered by fitness concerns and off-field controversies. His latest setback came in October 2024 when he was omitted from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad. To add to his woes, Shaw went unsold at the IPL auction, marking a stark decline from his earlier promise.
Playing for North Mumbai Panthers against Triumph Knights Mumbai North East in the last set of league matches in the 2025 edition of the Mumbai T20 League, Shaw bounced back to form. Before the game, he was yet to hit a score of note, managing 5, 5, 33, and 19 in four outings.
In the Panthers' last league match, he signed off in style with a 34-ball 75, hitting 12 fours and three sixes. He stitched a 62-run stand for the second wicket with Arjun Jaiswal (nine off 12) and 30 runs for the third wicket with Harshal Jadhav (46 off 30) before being dismissed by Surynash Shedge in the 10th over. Shaw's attacking knock helped his team post 207-6.
The opposition, in response, fell 38 runs short of the target, handing the Panthers their second win of the season in five matches. Though his team failed to qualify for the playoffs, having finished fifth, Shaw would take a lot of positives from this innings going forward.
