Essex wicketkeeper-batsman Will Buttleman completed a stunning stumping in a second team T20 fixture against Hampshire using the rarely seen ‘monkey arms’ technique, as explained by wicketkeeping coach Josh Sivier on social media.
Buttleman enjoyed a dream match, scoring an unbeaten hundred in the Essex innings before completing two stumpings off the bowling of Aron Nijjar later in the game. His second stumping – to dismiss Hampshire’s Joe Weatherley – was the one that caught the eye.
The ball flicked off Weatherley’s pad as he advanced down the track, causing the ball to significantly deviate to Buttleman’s right. Buttleman did brilliantly to catch the ball and then whip the bails off at the second attempt when he still had a fair bit of ground to make up.
Sivier, who tweets under the Twitter account ‘The WK Coach’, highlighted in a video of the dismissal how Buttleman uses the ‘monkey arms’ technique to relax his shoulders as Nijjar comes into bowl.
