Roston Chase stars with the bat and ball for Barbados in West Indies Championship
Chase won the toss at Sabina Park and opted to bat first in the third match of their series against Jamaica. He was the second-highest scorer for the side with a quick 102-ball 84 before turning up with the ball to take the 11th first-class five-for of his career and enforce a follow-on on Jamaica.
Barbados’ first innings started smoothly, with the opening pair of Kraigg Brathwaite and Shayne Moseley adding 55 runs together before the latter’s dismissal, bringing Jonathan Drakes to the middle. Brathwaite and Drakes constructed a 145-run stand together, during which the former completed his half-century before falling for 74.
Brathwaite’s dismissal triggered a mini collapse for Barbados, who went from 200-1 to 254-5, before Chase and wicketkeeper Leniko Boucher arrested the downfall. The duo together added 104 runs for the sixth wicket, while also completing their respective fifties. Boucher was dismissed for a 64-ball 50, and Chase for 84. No.8 Shamar Springer contributed with a 60-ball 45 as well, hitting three fours and as many maximums.

In reply to Barbados’s 439, Jamaica started with confidence as openers John Campbell and Kirk McKenzie added 61 runs together. But Chase brought himself on and broke the dangerous-looking partnership with the fourth delivery of his spell, bowling down Campbell. The off-spinner then bowled Brandon King as well to give Jamaica two quick setbacks.
After Jediah Blades removed McKenzie, Chase joined hands with left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop to take the next seven wickets, with the last five falling in the final five overs, and bowl out Jamaica for 142. Bishop finished with figures of 4-31, while Chase registered 5-28. With the five-for, he also completed 200 wickets in first-class cricket.
