Jack Edwards has been named in the Australia T20I squad for the Pakistan tour – here’s everything you need to know about the New South Wales all-rounder.
Who is Jack Edwards?
Born in 2000, Edwards got his first taste of senior cricket as an 18-year-old in 2018, when he made his first-class, List A and T20 debuts. Earlier that year, he had represented Australia at the Under-19 World Cup, opening the batting in a run to the final, where they lost to an Indian side featuring Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw.
Edwards also became the youngest centurion in Australia’s domestic List A competition and scored his maiden first-class ton the same year. In the seven years since, he has featured in 47 FC games, where he has scored 2183 runs at 30.74 and picked up 81 wickets. He also has 882 runs and 24 wickets in 36 List A appearances, and 830 runs and 48 wickets in 73 T20s.
Jack Edwards received his maiden Australia call-up in 2025
Edwards received his maiden international call-up for the third ODI of India’s tour down under in 2025. The call-up had come after his impressive tour of India with Australia A, where he played one four-day game and captained the touring side in two unofficial ODIs.
Edwards scored 88 off 78 in his only unofficial Test appearance of the tour, in Lucknow, before picking up a four-wicket haul in the second 50-over contest and hitting a 75-ball 89 from No.8 in the third in Kanpur.
Upon his return from the tour, the all-rounder captained New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield, scoring 258 runs in eight innings at 47.50, while also picking up 10 wickets at 32.80 each with his right-arm medium. While he had a disappointing three outings in the Dean Jones Trophy after that, he has since left that behind in the Big Bash League.
So far this season for the Sydney Sixers, he has picked up 15 wickets - the most for the side - and scored 115 runs at a strike rate of 191, with the opportunity to add to that in the playoffs. This is also by far his most productive season with the ball, with an 11-wicket campaign in 2023-24 his previous best.
Riding on his consistent showings across formats, Edwards also received a lucrative Indian Premier League contract with the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Having registered himself for a base price of INR 50 lakh, Edwards fetched a bid of INR 3 crore from the Sunrisers, who won a bidding war against the Chennai Super Kings.
He has now been picked for Australia’s tour of Pakistan, where they will play three T20Is in the lead-up to the World Cup, and has a good chance of making his international debut.
