New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Australia all registered wins on Tuesday (June 23) in the Women’s T20 World Cup - here’s the points table after the fixtures.
The defending champions, New Zealand, registered their second win in the edition after chasing down Scotland’s 131 in the 19th over. Scotland’s opener Darcey Carter made an unbeaten 72 in 52 balls, even as no one else from the side crossed 25. They lost seven wickets in their innings, and then gained early advantage after reducing New Zealand to 26-3 in 5.1 overs. However, Izzy Sharp’s 43-ball 62 took them safely over the line, as they stay alive, albeit barely, in the competition.
In the second Group B fixture, Sri Lanka were led by a fine hundred from skipper Chamari Athapaththu, who made an unbeaten 106 in the run chase of 131. She hit 17 fours and two sixes, registering her fourth T20I ton, as Sri Lanka won with four overs and three balls to spare.
In the lone Group A match on Tuesday, Australia took on Pakistan at Headingley. Batting first, multi-time winners, Australia, were led by Ellyse Perry’s 71 in 48 balls, while Annabel Sutherland (27 in 18) and Nicola Carey (26* in 13) also contributed, as Australia posted 199-7 on the board. Pakistan could not get a foot in the game, as they kept losing regular wickets, eventually getting bowled out for 86, to give Australia a massive 113-run win.
