Biography

Alana King, born in Clarinda, Victoria, is a crafty leg-spin bowling all-rounder. Her cricket journey began early, earning a rookie contract with Victoria at age 16 and joining the Melbourne Stars for WBBL’s inaugural season in 2015-16. Ahead of the 2021-22 season, she moved to the Perth Scorchers, which marked the start of her breakthrough at the domestic level.

King claimed her international debut in early 2022, playing all three formats within two weeks, T20I debut against England on 20 January, followed by Test and ODI debuts in late January and early February. Later that year, she became a key member of Australia’s World Cup-winning squad and also helped secure a Commonwealth Games gold medal.

Her leg-spin has been both precise and deceptive, earning her accolades and a place in the record books. Notably, in the 2022 edition of The Hundred, she delivered a hat-trick and bowled 10 consecutive dot balls, both firsts in the women's competition.

King continued to shine in the international arena. She was named Player of the Series in the 2024-25 Women’s Ashes, finishing with 23 wickets across formats. Her leg-spin wreaked havoc in the Test match at the MCG, where she spun out England with figures of 4 for 45.

In franchise cricket, King extended her impact beyond Australia. She played for Trent Rockets in The Hundred beginning in 2022 and joined UP in the Women’s T20 League in 2024. In 2025, Lancashire signed her for their multi-format campaigns in England, recognising her as a high-skill spinner and all-round performer.

A contemporary voice on Reddit summed it up best, calling her “the best wrist spinner in women’s cricket by a long, long way” and praising her control. Being noticed for her crafty variations and economical bowling stints, King made it to the Australian squad for the ODI World Cup 2025.
