Biography

Delano Potgieter has earned a reputation as one of South Africa’s most dependable all-rounders in domestic and franchise cricket. Batting left-handed and bowling right-arm medium pace, his ability to contribute in both departments made him a valuable player early in his career.

He began his professional journey with Gauteng, where he quickly made an impression in limited-overs cricket. In the 2018 Africa T20 Cup, he finished as his team’s leading run-scorer, and in the same season’s CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge, he topped their wicket charts. As his career evolved, Potgieter became a regular presence in franchise cricket. Representing MI Cape Town in the SA20 League, his first two seasons were quiet, but it was in the 2025 edition that he truly made his mark in both disciplines.

His all-round form soon earned him opportunities abroad, featuring later that year for MI New York in Major League Cricket and the Saint Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League. Though he only featured in a couple of games during New York’s title-winning campaign, the exposure to international leagues added valuable experience to his game. Back home, after three seasons with MI Cape Town, he was released ahead of the next SA20 season. However, his potential and performances didn’t go unnoticed, as the Paarl Royals moved swiftly to secure his services for the fourth edition of the tournament.
