Biography
Dhammika Prasad made a sensational start to his cricketing career when he picked up 2 wickets off consecutive deliveries in his first over of international cricket. However the joy was short-lived as following an injury, he had to wait a good duration of two years before making his comeback.
The pacer who started off as a top order batsman made the reluctant switch to fast bowling when his school didn’t find suitors for the new ball. A 2002 Under-19 World Cup later, he went on to make his domestic debut for the Sinhalese Sports Club. An ODI debut against Bangladesh in 2006, a good stint with Sri Lanka A and the Islanders’ obsession for a genuine speedster in the absence of Malinga, saw him making his Test debut against India in 2008. With his hostile pace, Dhammika did surprise quite a few Indian batsmen in addition to scalping danger man Virender Sehwag in both innings. Over the years, Sri Lanka has groomed a wide variety of bowlers and Dhammika Prasad is one of those talented species.
