In the third match of the tri-series between Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan, the former two faced off at the Harare Sports Club on Monday (December 29).

Opener Sameer Minhas and No.3 Usman Khan took Pakistan to 54-1 in the Powerplay. Minhas made it to a half-century off 50 balls when he swept left-arm spinner Benny Zuze for four in the 16th over. By the 20-over mark, Pakistan were 128-1, with Minhas on 73 off 62 and looking in menacing form.

The opener continued to attack, regularly finding the boundary. He made it to 99 as Usman reached his half-century off 58 balls. Minhas tapped Leeroy Chiwaula into the off side to get to the three-figure mark off 77 balls. He eventually departed for 142, holing out in the deep after attempting to hit Zuze over covers.

This has been a particularly productive month for Minhas. In Pakistan's U19 Asia Cup opener against Malaysia, his debut for the team, he scored an unbeaten 177. That match was not accorded Youth ODI status, but the final of the tournament was; against arch-rivals India, Minhas made an incredible 172 off 113 balls as Pakistan went on to win by 191 runs. He was named Player of the Tournament for his 471 runs, and is part of Pakistan's squad for the upcoming U19 World Cup.

Sameer is the younger brother of 20-year-old Arafat Minhas, who represented Pakistan at the 2024 U19 World Cup and has played four T20Is for the senior national team.
