Biography
Kanika Ahuja is known for her big-hitting skills and ability to play 360-degree shots around the ground. She quickly made a name for herself with her match-winning abilities. A left-handed batter and right-arm off-break bowler, Ahuja represents one of the brightest young prospects in Indian women’s cricket.
Ahuja made her debut for Punjab in the 2017-18 Senior Women’s T20 League against Odisha. She quickly rose through the ranks, captaining the Punjab Under-16 and Under-19 women’s cricket teams. Her breakthrough came during the 2021-22 Women’s Senior One Day Trophy, where she was the joint-leading wicket-taker with 15 wickets. She took her List A best bowling figures in that tournament, with 5/23 from 10 overs against Maharashtra. She also made her List A highest score in the same tournament, scoring 90 from 88 deliveries against Rajasthan.
In December 2021, Ahuja took a 4-wicket haul for India D Women during the Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy. The next year, Ahuja scored a staggering 305 not out off 122 balls for Patiala in Punjab’s inter-district women’s senior one-day tournament, showcasing her big-hitting prowess.
In February 2023, Ahuja was signed by RCB in the inaugural WPL, when she was just 20. She made an immediate impact in WPL 2023. After RCB lost their first five matches, she delivered a match-winning knock of 46 off 30 balls against UP Warriorz in a must-win game, helping RCB achieve their first victory of the season. She was awarded Player of the Match for her efforts.
Unfortunately, Ahuja was ruled out of WPL 2024 due to injuries, which was a significant setback. However, she returned stronger in WPL 2025, combining with Richa Ghosh in the opening game to help RCB achieve the highest successful run-chase in WPL history, showcasing her ability to perform under pressure.
In September 2023, Ahuja was named in her first India squad for the Asian Games. She made her Twenty20 International debut in the quarter-final of the tournament on 21 September 2023 against Malaysia at Hangzhou, though the match was curtailed by rain. She played her second and last T20I against England at the Wankhede Stadium in December 2023.
At the WPL 2026 auction, Gujarat Giants picked up Ahuja, marking a new chapter in her franchise career.
