Biography
Nicola Carey is a prolific Australian all-rounder known for her clutch performances and tactical versatility. A regular figure in the dominant Australian era of the late 2010s and early 2020s, she has successfully transitioned from a national team specialist to a premier domestic leader and a high-value pick in global franchise leagues.
Carey debuted for the New South Wales Breakers in the 2010-11 season just before her 18th birthday. She quickly earned a reputation as a reliable middle-order batter and a disciplined medium-pacer. She was a foundational member of the Sydney Thunder in the inaugural WBBL, playing a key role in their title win.
Despite being named in World Cup squads as early as 2012, injury and the sheer depth of Australian talent kept her on the sidelines for years. She finally made her international debut in 2018 against India. Carey became the ultimate 'team player' for Australia, often used as a tactical floater in the batting lineup or a death-overs specialist.
In 2019, Carey made a career-defining move to Tasmania and the Hobart Hurricanes. This shift allowed her to take on more responsibility, often batting higher up the order. Her leadership helped the Tasmanian Tigers secure back-to-back WNCL titles (2021-22 and 2022-23), establishing Tasmania as a powerhouse in Australian domestic cricket.
Carey was most recently signed by the Mumbai Indians for the 2026 season for INR 30 lakh, marking her entry into the prestigious Indian league.
