January 1958. Pakistan were almost out of the Bridgetown Test after the West Indies declared on 579-9 and bowled them out for 106 on the third morning of the six-day match. However, Hanif Mohammad dug in and famously batted for nearly a thousand minutes, well until the final evening to score 337 and save the Test.

Unbeaten on the second evening, Hanif had been dismissed on the third morning in the first innings – in other words, he had batted on five different days of that Test. He still does not make it to our list, because this was a six day Test match. Neither does Herbert Sutcliffe (third to seventh days in the timeless Test of Melbourne 1924/25 that ran for seven days). Nor does Sunil Gavaskar (first two and last three days of the six-day Test of Port-of-Spain 1971).
