The record for the fastest Test century (54 balls) belongs to a former New Zealand captain, achieved in his final Test against Australia at Christchurch (2016). He appears again in the top 10 for his 74-ball century at the same venue against Sri Lanka (2015) – joint-eighth fastest ever, alongside a Pakistani and an Indian.

An England wicketkeeper-batter became the latest entrant to this list with an 80-ball century in the ongoing Edgbaston Test against India, achieved after arriving at the crease on a hat-trick ball. At one stage, he threatened the England record (76 balls, 1902 Ashes) – though the exact ball count for the 123-year-old England record remains debated. Still, the knock now places the keeper joint-third fastest among England batters, alongside his batting partner, who scored an 80-ball century against Pakistan in Rawalpindi (2022).
