For more than half a century, the West Indies used to host Test cricket in only four venues – Kensington Oval (Bridgetown, Barbados), Queen’s Park Oval (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago), Bourda (Georgetown, Guyana), and Sabina Park Cricket Ground (Kingston, Jamaica).

That changed in 1981, when St John’s became their fifth Test venue, after two Antiguans – Andy Roberts and Viv Richards – established themselves as global superstars. Meanwhile, the West Indies had been hosting ODIs at non-Test venues.

The 21st century witnessed the West Indies using venues in the Windward and Leeward Islands for Test cricket. Many of these grounds hosted World Cup matches and CPL games in multiple formats. Top-level cricket has stopped being restricted to the four major islands long ago.
