There had been buzz around the number 18 – Virat Kohli’s shirt number – even before the start of IPL 2025. It was, after all, the 18th season of the IPL, and Kohli had spent every season with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. RCB winning their maiden title (in their 18th attempt, of course!) provided a fitting ending to it all.

What went largely unnoticed amidst all this is that there were 18 four-wicket hauls (or better) in IPL 2025, by 15 different bowlers. The count has been exceeded in only 2022 (25) and 2023 (23), while 2012 also had 18. In no other IPL season were there 15 or more instances of bowlers taking four-wicket hauls.

The list includes a pair of brothers as well as the eventual Purple Cap winner. Interestingly, all 18 instances came in before the season had to be halted for 10 days, between May 7 and 17.
