In this quiz, you have to name every South African bowler who has taken a five-wicket haul in men’s ODIs.

Overall, 22 South African players have taken an ODI five-wicket haul. That list shrinks to 12 if the filter is adjusted to players with at least two ODI five-fors.

The highest number of ODI five-fors by a South African is six, achieved by one of their finest all-rounders. He is widely celebrated as one of the greatest batting finishers to have graced the game and was the Player of the Tournament in the 1999 World Cup. In that competition, his side faced a heartbreaking loss to Australia in a semi-final that resulted in the first tie in World Cup history. Australia advanced to the final by finishing higher in the Super Six table and went on to become the eventual champions.

The next best (5) is held by South Africa’s leading wicket-taker across formats, followed by their third-highest wicket-taker, who has four ODI five-fors to his name.

A fast bowler picked up 5-42 to help South Africa secure an unassailable lead in the three-match ODI series against Australia, entering the rare club among his countrymen with multiple five-fors. Earlier in the series opener, the overall list had a new member when a left-arm bowler picked up the fourth-best figures (5-33) by a South African spinner.
