When South Africa returned from their two-decade exile in 1991, India became the first team to play against them. The three ODIs in India were also the first games for South Africa in the format. Allan Donald lit up the occasion by becoming the first to take a five-wicket haul in the first ODI for his nation. In 1992, India also became the first team to play ODIs in South Africa.
