On June 25, 2025, a West Indies cricketer became the sixth man to play Test cricket after registering over 100 appearances in limited-overs cricket.
It is quite rare these days for players to do so. With increased specialisation in formats, several players are deemed white-ball or red-ball specialists. If they play across formats, they often do so from early on in their careers, not after they have built up a body of work in another format.

This particular list, somewhat naturally, is dominated by players from Ireland and Afghanistan who made their international debuts before their team received Test status. The one on top, from Ireland, played 125 ODIs and 59 T20Is before his first Test match.
Among players who debuted after their team received Test status, an Indian tops the list with 144 white-ball matches before his first Test. He has also captained the national side.
To avoid any doubt, this quiz does not include those who have not played/are yet to play Test cricket. Players like David Miller, with 308 limited-overs internationals but no Test matches yet, are not considered.
