An Englishman holds the record for the most runs (2,846 at 58.08) in India-England Tests since 1990. Since his Test debut in 2012/13 – during England’s historic series win in India – he has scored 12,913 runs at 50.63, the most by any batter in this period. Now 34, he finished the 2023-2025 World Test Championship as the highest run-scorer and sits favourite to break the all-time Test record of 15,921 runs, held by an Indian legend who ranks second on the list of highest run-getters in India-England Tests since 1990. His 2,535 runs at 51.73 have come between 1990–2012.

As captain, India’s most successful Test skipper scored the most runs (1,638 at 56.48) in the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy (formerly the Pataudi Trophy) in the mentioned time span. He ranks fourth overall with 1,991 runs at 42.36. His numbers declined after stepping down from captaincy, coinciding with a prolonged Test slump that ultimately led to his recent retirement.

Overall, 39 players have scored at least 500 runs in India-England Tests since 1990. This number reduces to 14 when the cutoff is raised to 1,000 runs, and just three players surpass 2,000 runs.
