In this quiz, you have to name the players who have taken a five-wicket haul in their maiden men's ODI appearance.
A Scotland fast bowler holds the best bowling figures (7-21) on men’s ODI debut. He achieved this during a match against Oman in July last year, going past the previous record of 6-16, held by South Africa’s fifth-highest wicket-taker across formats. Barring these two, only one other player has taken at least six wickets on ODI debut – a West Indies fast bowler back in 2003. As of September 6, 2025, the number stretches to 15 if the cut-off is reduced to five wickets in an innings.

Two contemporary Bangladesh seamers are on the list. One took 5-28 in 2014 and another took 5-15 in 2015, both against India in Mirpur. They are both the only players to achieve the feat during their teenage years, at 19 years 75 days and 19 years 285 days respectively. The second one, a left-arm seamer, is currently Bangladesh’s third-most successful wicket-taker.
The first one to pick a five-for on ODI debut was a Sri Lankan, against New Zealand in 1984.
