Recently, a batter became the youngest to lead England when he was named the skipper of the T20I series against Ireland. The only captain to lead the country below the age of 22, he led in two games after several first-choice players missed the series.

Overall, there have been 19 players who have captained England before turning 26, with one player leading them in 21 matches, back in 1981. No one else below the age of 26 has captained England in more than 10 matches.

Several young captains were highly successful as well: Three averaged over 70 with the bat across formats, with three more averaging between 50 and 60 while leading England below 26.
