Thomas Warner, a captain in the guards of King James I, is usually credited with establishing Saint Kitts in 1624 as the first British colony in the Caribbean. Saint Kitts’ first major venue in Basseterre was thus named it Warner Park. It hosted matches in the 2007 World Cup. The planned industrial city of Jamshedpur is also known as Tatanagar after the family that built Asia’s first iron and steel plant there. The cricket stadium at Jamshedpur, named after Tata Steel general manager John Lawrence Keenan, is perhaps the only international venue named after an US citizen.

Cricket has a tendency to name its venues after non-cricketers. Eden Gardens, Kolkata and Eden Park, Auckland are, for example, named after the same family that little prominent cricketing connections. However, some cricket grounds have been named after the players.
