Historically, India has not been a hotbed of fast bowling talent. In fact, for most of the country's Test history, their struggles overseas have been primarily down to a lack of depth in this department.

This has begun to change over the last few decades, though. It is no surprise then, that the players towards the upper end of this list are almost exclusively from the modern era. There is one notable exception right at the top of the list, who at the time he retired from Test cricket held the record for most wickets – pace or spin, Indian or otherwise.
