From Ranjitsinhji to MAK Pataudi, Indian cricketers had long stints in the County Championship over the decades, but most of them were amateurs from privileged families. In the late 1960s, Farokh Engineer – also the last Parsi man to play for India – became the first to acquire a long-term contract, for Lancashire. He lives there.

Four decades later, MS Dhoni became the first captain to win all three senior limited-overs cricket tournaments – the T20 and ODI World Cups and the Champions Trophy. Over a decade after Dhoni’s retirement, Rishabh Pant became only the second wicketkeepers to hit two hundreds in a Test match.
