Sri Lanka v Afghanistan, September 18, 6.30pm local
What Afghanistan need to qualify
Afghanistan’s equation is the simplest. If they win, they qualify (their net run rate is far too ahead of Bangladesh’s). If they lose, they get eliminated.
What Sri Lanka need to qualify
A win will guarantee qualification for Sri Lanka. However, they may make it even if they lose to Afghanistan. In that case, all they need is to ensure that their net run rate finishes above Bangladesh’s -0.270.
If Sri Lanka bat first and score 150, all they need is to ensure Afghanistan do not chase that inside 11.2 overs. If Afghanistan bat first and make 150, Sri Lanka need to score only 84 to qualify. The numbers will change depending on the first-innings score, but only marginally.
What Bangladesh need to qualify
Bangladesh will qualify if Sri Lanka win. However, if Afghanistan win (and qualify), exactly one of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will make it. Sri Lanka’s conditions are mentioned above: Bangladesh will qualify if Sri Lanka fail to meet these.
