Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by five wickets in the 2025 Asia Cup on Tuesday (September 25): here’s the updated Asia Cup Super Fours table after the SL vs PAK game.

Batting first, Sri Lanka got off to a steady start, scoring 43 runs for the loss of two wickets in the first 5.1 overs. Kusal Perera’s dismissal, however, led to a mini collapse, as they slumped to 80-6. The middle overs were also tough to navigate for Sri Lanka: they scored only 35 runs between overs 6-15, as Pakistan’s bowlers bowled tight lines and lengths.

Abrar Ahmed was the star of the show, finishing with figures of 1-8 in four overs, while Hussain Talat also curtailed the run flow, conceding 18 runs for two wickets. Kamindu Mendis, however, kept going, bringing up his 50 in 43 deliveries, before perishing on the very next delivery. Crucial runs from Wanindu Hasaranga (15 in 13) and Chamika Karunaratne (17 in 21) helped them to 133-8.

What should have been an easy run chase for Pakistan ended up being an uphill task. They kept up with the run rate initially, scoring 48-2 in the powerplay, but spinners Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana made run-scoring difficult. Pakistan made only 34 runs in the next six overs, as the pressure increased. Talat and Mohammad Nawaz, however, took the team over the line for their first win of the Super Fours.

SL vs PAK: Updated Asia Cup Super Fours points table with net run rate

Sri Lanka, who were unbeaten in the first round of the competition, have had reverse fortunes in the Super Fours. They are yet to win a game after two matches, and can reach a maximum of two points.

With three teams already on two points, Sri Lanka’s chances of advancing to the final are realistically tough. They will now hope that Bangladesh win both their remaining matches, against India and Pakistan. One loss for Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka will be eliminated.
