Discarded Australia Test batter Marnus Labuschagne hit yet another hundred in the 2025-26 One-Day Cup on Monday (November 3).
Marnus Labuschagne hits third hundred in four One-Day Cup innings
At the Cricket Central Ground in Sydney, Queensland took on New South Wales. Batting first, Queensland posted 287 for 9. Visiting captain Marnus Labuschagne anchored the innings with a 111-ball 101, hitting six fours and a six. The most productive stand – a 102-run partnership – came between him and Lachlan Hearne, who made a 54-ball 50. Opener Jack Clayton (52) was the other half-centurion. Among the NSW bowlers, Tanveer Sangha picked up 3 for 64.

Labuschagne continued to contribute in his team’s defence, claiming two wickets – Chris Green (12) and Sangha (1) – to finish with figures of 2 for 26 from six overs. However, the pick of the bowlers was Benji Floros, who returned 4 for 22, as Queensland skittled out the hosts for 191 in 42.1 overs to seal a 96-run win.
Queensland are currently second on the points table with three wins from five matches, while Tasmania sit atop, having won all four of their games so far.
Can Labuschagne return to Australia's Test squad for Ashes?
With that hundred, Labuschagne extended his purple patch after being snubbed from Australia’s Test and ODI squads. His last eight innings across formats read: 130, 2, 160, 105, 159, 18, 4, and 101. He is now the highest scorer in this year’s One-Day Cup, amassing 338 runs at an average and strike rate of 84.50, with three centuries in just four matches. In the current Sheffield Shield too, Labuschagne leads the way, having piled up 341 runs at an average of 85.25.
In his first 32 Tests, Labuschagne scored 3,071 runs at an average of 59.05. The runs dried up thereafter, as he managed just 1,364 runs at 31.00 in his next 26 matches. That ultimately led to his Test snub. He was dropped from the ODI squad as well after a string of low scores in the England series, the Champions Trophy, and most recently against South Africa in August.
His good form in domestic cricket helped him earn a recall to Australia’s ODI squad for their recent series against India as an injury replacement for Cameron Green. Although he didn't get a chance to bat and impress in national colours, his impeccable form across formats are more than likely to open the door for an Ashes return for him. Australia’s unsettled top three could further strengthen his case.
