Aiden Markram has stepped in for Temba Bavuma as South Africa skipper in the second ODI against Australia.

In the first ODI between the sides in Cairns, Bavuma led the side to a 98-run victory as both he and Markram scored half-centuries, as did Matthew Breetzke. Left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj starred in the second innings with career-best figures of 5-33; he went to the top of the ICC ODI rankings on the back of that performance.
One hour ahead of the scheduled start of the second ODI in Mackay, Cricket South Africa announced that Bavuma would miss the game as a precautionary measure: “ODI captain Temba Bavuma has been rested for the second match against Australia. This decision is part of his workload management, as he recovered from a hamstring strain which he sustained during the WTC Final in June.
“Although he experienced no discomfort during the first ODI on Tuesday, the Proteas medical team recommended he be rested for the second match.He will be available to lead the side in the third ODI on Sunday, with Aiden Markram standing in as captain today.”
Tony de Zorzi took Bavuma's place in the XI. South Africa made one other change – opting to rest Prenelan Subrayen to take him out of the spotlight after his bowling action had been reported after the first ODI. Senuran Muthusamy came in for him.
Mackay hosts men's international for the first time in 33 years
The second and third ODIs of the series are being held at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay, which has not hosted a men's international match since the 1992 World Cup. On that occasion, a World Cup game between India and Sri Lanka saw the former reach 1-0 in 0.2 overs, before bad weather forced an abandonment.
