Babar Azam during batting practice in the T20 World Cup 2024

Former No.1 ICC ranked T20I batter Babar Azam has dropped out of the top 10 of the chart for the first time in eight years in the latest update to the table.

Babar Azam drops out of T20I top ten

Babar has slipped down three positions to No.12, just ahead of fellow Pakistan player and former top-ranked batter Mohammad Rizwan. Both batters were dropped from Pakistan's T20I side earlier this year under new captain Salman Agha. Babar last played a match in the format in January, scoring three consecutive half-centuries against South Africa before he was out for single figures in his first three innings of Pakistan's series against West Indies. In the recently concluded Pakistan Super League, Babar scored 288 runs at an average of 36.00 with three half-centuries and a strike-rate of 128.57.

Mohammed Haris leaps 210 spots among batters

Another Pakistan batter, however, Mohammad Haris, made a huge leap in the latest rankings update, moving up 210 places to No.30 after he scored 107* off 46 balls in the final match of Pakistan's series whitewash over Bangladesh. Several other Pakistan batters, including Hasan Nawaz and Salman Agha also improved their positions.

The only movement in the top 10 of the batting rankings was to accommodate Babar's move down, with Kusal Perera and Reeza Hendricks moving up to joint ninth. The top 10 in the bowling rankings for the format also saw no movement, with New Zealand's Jacob Duffy still in No.1 spot, and the top 10 of the all-rounder rankings are also unchanged, Hardik Pandya still leading the pack.
