On Friday, he got to his sixth T20 fifty of 2025, reaching the landmark in 29 balls and laying the platform for a huge score. Mohammad Haris (41 in 25) and Hasan Nawaz (51* in 26) made crucial contributions, as Pakistan ended with 201-6, the second time in as many games that they have breached the 200-run mark.

In the first T20I, Pakistan posted 201-7, with skipper Salman Agha top-scoring with 56 in 34. Nawaz and Shadab made forties, as the side crossed 200 for just the second time in four years while batting first.

Back-to-back 200-plus scores mark seven-year first for Pakistan

They increased the tally to three in the second T20I and achieved another seven-year first during their innings. The last time Pakistan had made 200 in successive T20Is was in 2018, when they made 203-5, 205-3 and 204-4 against the West Indies (first two) and Scotland, respectively.

Incidentally, it was before the duo of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan started batting together. The pair, often criticised for their scoring rate, first batted together in 2019 and opened for the first time in 2021. They made a total of 3,300 runs for all wickets, but only struck at 132.05, which dropped to 131.97 while opening.

They were eventually omitted from the T20I tour against New Zealand in March, which Pakistan lost 1-4, but did not return for the home series against Bangladesh, as the selectors backed a fearless batting approach instead. Pakistan have also not picked star quick and PSL 2025-winning skipper Shaheen Afridi for the ongoing series.
