The fifth edition of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League will see four teams competing for glory from September 6 to 17. Here are the major overseas players to look out for this season.
Trinbago Knight Riders
The Knight Riders boast of one of the best all-rounders in the world, Marizanne Kapp, in their squad, along with two Indians, Yastika Bhatia and Shikha Pandey.
Pandey also won the player of the match award in the opening game of the season for her 3-17, while Bhatia scored 35 in 28 balls, opening the innings with Australia’s Laura Harris (38 off 19). In the same game, Madeline Penna of New Zealand scored a 21-ball 27. Sainavi Kambalpalli of the USA rounds off the Knight Riders’ overseas players quota for this season.
Barbados Tridents
The Tridents have signed one of New Zealand’s all-time greats, Suzie Bates, for this WCPL season. Bates picked up 2-25 but made only a solitary run. They have another New Zealand veteran, Maddy Green, in their unit.
Sri Lanka T20I skipper Chamari Athapaththu, listed in their squad on the Barbados official website, is currently playing in the Asia Cup in Dubai and is unlikely to be available at least till September 11, with Sri Lanka expected to make at least the semi-finals. India’s Kiran Navgire and Pooja Vastrakar are the other two overseas players signed by Barbados Tridents.
Jamaica Empress
Australia legend Meg Lanning is the biggest name on the roster for the Jamaica Empress. Even though she retired from international cricket in November 2023, Lanning has been actively playing in T20 leagues. Her teammates include Ireland’s talented opener Amy Hunter.
The Empress’ bowling attack will be strengthened by Rosemary Mair and Nonkululeko Mlaba. A New Zealand fast bowler with 32 wickets in 48 T20Is, Mair takes the new ball more often than not. Mlaba, the left-arm spinner from South Africa, has 79 wickets in 83 T20Is so far, and has also played four Tests and 54 ODIs.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
Guyana Amazon Warriors have managed to sign three exceptional South Africans this season. Tazmin Brits will certainly open the innings, while Nadine de Klerk and Chloe Tryon are two of the best finishers who can roll their arm as well.
Australian Erin Burns rounds off Guyana’s overseas players’ quota. Burns is a reliable middle-order batter with immense experience in the Women’s Big Bash League. She had played for the Amazon Warriors in 2024, scoring 172 runs at 57.33 and a strike rate of 124.
