Krish Patel leaves Northamptonshire to study applied mathematics at Brown
Only 19, Patel will leave forego his contract with Northamptonshire and will leave the club at the end of June 2025 for Brown University.
“While I’m looking forward to the academic challenges ahead, it’s not easy saying goodbye to the club that’s played such a big part in my life.” said Patel. “All the support and guidance has meant a lot to me, I have learnt invaluable lessons and I’ll always be proud to have been part of NCCC.”
Patel first came to limelight in 2023 on his first game in professional cricket, for Surrey against Essex in a One-Day Cup game at Chelmsford. Batting at six, he made 30 – the second-highest score for the side (after Ryan Patel’s 117) – as Surrey chased 260 off the last ball.
Northamptonshire signed Krish Patel on a two-year rookie contract in 2024. He “impressed throughout the summer” for the Second XI, making 95 against the South Asian Cricket Academy and 63 against Durham 2nd XI.
That earned him a maiden call-up to the Northants side in the County Championship. Batting at three on first-class debut, Patel made a “stylish” 26 against Yorkshire at Headingley but fell for only nine while opening the batting in the second innings. These remain his only List A and first-class matches.
“Krish is an extremely bright young man who has a very bright future ahead of him,” said Northamptonshire CEO Ray Payne. “It’s been a pleasure to have him at the Club over the last year and we’ll all be sad to see him leave at the end of the month.”
