Consecutive hundreds for Nathan McSweeney
McSweeney had been one of four batters to score hundreds when Northamptonshire broke a plethora of records before declaring on 684-2 against Kent at Canterbury. Emerging at 472-2, he remained unbeaten on an 85-ball 101 with 10 fours and two sixes.
Now, against Middlesex at Northampton, he came to bat in completely different circumstances. Northants were 37-2 when he walked out, and soon slumped to 98-4 when James Sales joined him. At that point, they needed another 104 to make Middlesex bat again.
By stumps on the second day, however, the follow-on had been averted: McSweeney (then 87) and Sales (78) had taken the hosts to 229-4. McSweeney eventually fell on the third morning, for a 191-ball 107 with 16 fours, having put on 164 for the fifth wicket.
This was the 10th first-class hundred for McSweeney, who had played all his three Test matches for Australia in the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Four of these have come since October 2025. These two are his only hundreds outside Australia.
At the time of writing, Northamptonshire were 307-7 with Sales (117) and Ben Sanderson (7) at the crease. They trail by another 40.

Earlier in the match, Middlesex had posted 341 despite none of their batters scoring a hundred – though captain Leus du Plooy (51), Ben Geddes (65), Joe Cracknell (79), and Zafar Gohar (83) all got half-centuries to lift them from 164-6. Cracknell and Gohar added 140 for the seventh wicket. For Middlesex, Harry Conway had 3-74 and Sanderson 5-62.
