Hampshire’s Manny Lumsden registered a five-wicket haul on his first-class debut to keep Hampshire in the game against Nottinghamshire in County Championship Division One.

After conceding 80 runs in 12 overs for just one wicket in the first innings, 17-year-old Lumsden stepped up in the second with a five-wicket haul to keep Nottinghamshire down to 104 and keep Hampshire's survival hopes alive. Eddie Jack and Scott Currie also contributed with three and two wickets, respectively.
Having conceded a first-innings lead of 73, Hampshire took six wickets in a matter of 34 runs to reduce Notts from 13-0 to 47-6 in the second innings. Jack started the proceedings, sending Haseeb Hameed, Ben Slater and Freddie McCann back with only 22 runs on the board.
Joe Clarke and Jack Haynes stood for another 22, before Lumsden, who was introduced in the 16th over, sent Haynes and Mitchell Hay back in a space of seven deliveries to reduce Notts to 46-5, which soon became 47-6, with Scott Currie adding a wicket to his name by dismissing Liam Patterson-White. Currie also sent Fraser Sheat back, with the score on 75.
17-year-old Lumsden then quickly took the remaining three wickets, the first of which was of Olly Stone. He then ended Joe Clarke's resistance, before Dillon Pennington became his fifth victim while skying a wild slog, leaving Hampshire with 178 needed to win the clash.

Earlier in the game, Notts batted first and got to 377 on the back of a 166-ball 105 from Clarke. Patterson-White also scored a crucial 92, whille Kyle Abbott and Scott Currie claimed four wickets each. Jake Lehmann’s unbeaten 133 was the highlight of Hampshire’s first innings as they managed 304. Stone, Pennington and Fraser Sheat picked up three wickets each.
At the time of writing, Hampshire had gone down to 61-6, still needing another 117 runs on the last day. Ben Mayes (21*) and Currie (13*) are out in the middle, having stitched the highest partnership of the innings (34) after they were reduced to 27-6. Stone and Pennington have taken three wickets each so far.
As far as the Division One points table is concerned, Hampshire are reeling at the bottom with 88 points, 28 behind ninth-placed Leicestershire. With a win and four bonus points, Hampshire can get to a maximum of 108, closing the gap before the two sides in the relegation zone face off in the next round.
