A member of the groundstaff takes water off the pitch as play is delayed due to rain on Day Two of the Fifth LV= Insurance Test Match at Edgbaston on July 02, 2022 in Birmingham, England

India find themselves in an advantageous position heading into day five at Edgbaston. However, the rain threat on the final day could hinder their chances of levelling the series 1-1.

Shubman Gill dominated the Test match with a century on day four, following his career-best 269 in the first innings. The India Test captain now holds the record for the highest aggregate runs by an Indian batter in a Test match, surpassing Sunil Gavaskar's 344 against West Indies at Port of Spain in 1971.

Earlier, on day three, England staged a remarkable recovery from 84-5 thanks to Jamie Smith's counter-attacking 184 at No.7. However, Mohammed Siraj's fiery 6-70 sparked a late collapse, restricting England to 407 in reply to India's commanding 587.

Powered by Gill's century on day four, India has built a commanding 484-run lead by tea, positioning them as favourites to level the series after losing the opener. However, rain threatens to disrupt their victory charge.
