England have added Gus Atkinson to their squad for the Lord's Test match following their thumping defeat to India at Edgbaston.
Atkinson missed the first two matches of England series against India after he picked up a hamstring strain during the opening Test of the summer against Zimbabwe. However, following the home side's defeat at Edgbaston, Atkinson has been added to their squad for the third Test at Lord's, which will begin on Thursday (July 10).
The 27-year-old Surrey seamer will compete for a place in England's XI alongside speedster Jofra Archer, who was added to England's squad ahead of the match in Birmingham but didn't make the final XI. England also have all-rounder Jamie Overton in their squad, as well Sam Cook and their seamers from the first two Tests: Josh Tongue, Brydon Carse and Chris Woakes.
Atkinson made his Test debut at Lord's last year during England's series against West Indies. He took 12 wickets on Test debut and went on to take 32 across six matches that summer. From his Test career so far he has 55 wickets from 12 matches at an average of 22.30. He took three wickets in his most recent outing against Zimbabwe last month.

England fall to heavy defeat at Edgbaston
Atkinson's addition to England's squad comes after the home side were defeated by 336 runs at Edgbaston. Shubman Gill's 430 runs in the game led his side to their biggest-ever win away from home in terms of runs, levelling the series scoreline at 1-1.
England's seamers struggled to take 20 wickets on a surface which provided little assistance, with India having scored over 350 in every one of their innings of the series so far, and over 400 in three out of the four. Tongue is the leading wicket-taker of the series so far, having taken 11 wickets at an average of 33.63, while England's next leading wicket-taker Ben Stokes has six wickets at 35.50.
The match at Lord's will get underway on Thursday.
