The fourth Test between England and India in Manchester could be interrupted by rain. Find the latest weather updates ahead of day five of the match here.
This just India's second Test match in Manchester in the last 35 years, having last played at Old Trafford in 2014. They have not managed to win a single Test at the venue in nine attempts, their joint-worst record at any Test venue. England, on the other hand, have won 33 and lost 15 matches this venue, the win/loss ratio of 2.20 being their second-best for any venue where they have played more than 50 Tests.
At the end of three days, the advantage remained firmly with the hosts, who bowled India out for 358 before securing a 186-run lead. After eventually making 669 early on day four, they took two wickets just before lunch to reduce India to 0-2. KL Rahul (87 batting) and Shubman Gill (78 batting) then put in a superb rearguard effort to bat out two wicketless sessions, giving India the chance of a draw on day five.

England's effort with the bat was led by Joe Root, whose 15th 150-plus score in Test cricket saw him move past Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting into second place for the top run-scorers in Test history. Captain Ben Stokes briefly retired hurt before resuming his innings, and scored his first Test ton since 2023, finishing with 141.
