Jasprit Bumrah bowled only one over after India took the second new ball on day three (July 25) of the ongoing Old Trafford Test in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
After posting 358 in their first innings, India's bowlers struggled against England's batters. Following questionable bowling tactics on day two, day three unfolded similarly for the tourists as they kept searching for wickets while England extended their lead. India took the second new ball in the 91st over of England's innings – bowled by Mohammed Siraj. Bumrah, who had looked off-colour by then (conceding 54 runs in 18 wicketless overs), was given the next over to revive India's fortunes.
However, he began poorly, conceding a four off his first ball as Joe Root flicked a full-length delivery off his pads. Bumrah’s new-ball over cost 11 runs, and he left the field shortly, fueling speculation about his fitness. As a result, India paired Anshul Kamboj to support Siraj with the new ball.
India hit by fresh injury concern for Jasprit Bumrah
Bumrah was seen sitting and speaking with India's bowling coach Morne Morkel, struggling to rise while gripping the railing of the Old Trafford stairs. He eventually hobbled back to the dressing room. Ravi Shastri, on commentary, suggested Bumrah might have injured his ankle while descending the stairs.

Just before the 98th over began, Bumrah surprisingly returned to the field. However, commentators on the official broadcast mentioned that the fast bowler wouldn’t be available to bowl until after tea.
ICC clause 24.3.1, which deals with "Fielder's Absence; Substitutes", explains why Bumrah could field but not bowl immediately after returning.
The clause reads: "If a player is absent from the field for longer than 8 minutes, the following restrictions shall apply to their future participation in the match: 24.2.3.1 The player shall not be permitted to bowl in the match until he has either been able to field, or his team has subsequently been batting, for the total length of playing time for which the player was absent (hereafter referred to as Penalty time). A player’s unexpired Penalty time shall be limited to a maximum of 120 minutes. If any unexpired Penalty time remains at the end of an innings, it is carried forward to the next and subsequent innings of the match."
Since Bumrah’s injury apparently occurred off the field, he had to spend an equivalent time fielding before he was permitted to bowl again.
India assigned Bumrah to bowl the first over after tea from the Brian Statham End – the same end where Stuart Broad believed the fast bowler could have been more effective if used consistently.
