India captain Shubman Gill came close to eclipsing multiple all-time records with his final innings of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. Follow the fifth Test live here.
Shubman Gill has had a bumper series with the bat so far, having scored 722 runs at 90.25 coming into the Oval Test. He could add only 21 before being run out in the first innings, attempting what looked like a non-existent run. With four hundreds in his kitty already, he has equalled, and broken, many records already, but some are still in sight.

At one point, he looked set to beat Sunil Gavaskar's tally for the most runs by an Indian in a Test series ever. Before the Test started, Gill was 43 runs shy of Gavaskar's tally of 774 runs from his debut series in the West Indies, in 1971. He shaved off 21 of those runs in the first innings, and went to Lunch on the third day on 11, essentially needed to double that tally. It would have been a monumental feat in itself, since Gavaskar's tally has long been part of Indian cricketing folklore. However, he fell the ball right after lunch.
Earlier on Day Three, Akash Deep shine brightly in his overnight role, becoming the first Indian nightwatchman since 2011 (Amit Mishra) to hit a fifty for India. After lunch, Jaiswal continued to progress towards his century.
