India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal equalled a national record during the Edgbaston Test on Friday (July 4).

Day three of the match saw India take the early advantage as Mohammed Siraj struck twice in two balls to remove Joe Root and Ben Stokes, leaving England precariously placed at 84-5 in pursuit of India's first-innings score of 587.

Harry Brook (158) and Jamie Smith (184*) then counter-attacked in some style, ensuring England scored a mammoth 172 runs in the morning session, as the wicketkeeper scored an 80-ball century. Brook was eventually dismissed soon after tea, and India cleaned up the tail in clinical fashion to secure a 180-run lead. Siraj starred with 6-70.

Coming out for their second innings, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal got India off to a fast start, the latter taking charge as he collected three boundaries off a single Brydon Carse over, and the lead pushed past 200. The first of those took him past the milestone of 2,000 Test runs.
