Watch: Rishabh Pant was dismissed by a peach of a delivery by Jofra Archer early on day five of the third England-India Test.

India began the day needing 135 more runs with six wickets in hand to claim a 2-1 series lead. Nightwatcher Akash Deep had been dismissed on the last ball of the previous evening, setting up an absorbing day of cricket.

England, however, seized the early advantage as Pant, who had not kept wicket in the third innings due to a finger injury, was sent back by Archer in the third over of the day. The left-hander, having danced down the track to thump a four two balls earlier, was undone by a length delivery that angled in from wide of the crease. The ball straightened and moved away just enough to beat Pant’s outside edge and crashed into the top of the off stump. With minimal foot movement, Pant was unable to fend it off successfully, and India lost their fifth wicket for 72 runs.

Archer, who is making a Test comeback after four years, claimed his third wicket of the game. After dismissing Pant, he ran towards the batter in celebration, delivering a send-off with a few words.

Archer is potentially at the risk of being reprimanded by the ICC for breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct that relates to "using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an international match."

Ahead of the start of play on day five, the ICC announced that Mohammed Siraj had been fined 15% of his match fees for his send-off to Ben Duckett.

India lost KL Rahul and Washington Sundar soon after Pant's wicket fell, slipping to 82 for 7.
